Jane Winstone

Jane Winstone (1912–1944) was a New Zealand aviator. She was born in Wanganui, New Zealand in 1912. Jane was at one time the youngest female solo pilot in New Zealand, having held he pilot's licence since the age of 16.〔NZDF Personnel Archives & Medals, service file of Jane Winstone〕 She died on service on 10 February 1944 flying for the Air Transport Auxiliary when her Spitfires's Merlin engine failed.〔 Her Fiance, also a RNZAF airman had died two years earlier on air operations.
